The Scottish Government Minister, Fergus Ewing, has hailed the drop in quarter on quarter insolvencies as "encouraging", but the trend is still up on the same quarter from last year.
There were 4,664 personal insolvencies (2,615 sequestrations and 2,049 protected trust deeds). Of more encouragement, perhaps, are the number of DAS debt payment arrangements - double the previous year at 878.
The number of corporate insolvencies was 280 (8 receiverships, 203 court driven liquidations, and 69 creditors voluntary liquidations). This is again up on last year, albeit that this is down on the previous quarter. Read into that what you will.
Fergus Ewing reminds us of the Scottish poet Andrew Lang. "He uses statistics as a drunken man uses lamp-posts...for support rather than illumination." |
